WAIMEA — Internationally known composer, arranger and clinician Mark Hayes will lead a two-day workshop focused on the art of choral singing through the preparation of seven of his compositions later this month.

The classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 16 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 17 at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Waimea.

Hayes’ music is performed around the world. He has led clinics throughout Europe, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, South Africa and Canada, and he is a frequent guest conductor at Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center.

His compositions will be performed at a culminating concert at 4 p.m. Feb. 18 at Kahilu Theatre. In addition to the vocal music, Hayes will give a solo piano performance of his compositions. He held a similar workshop in 2016 attended by singers from around the island.

Workshop organizers Everett Knowles, Julia Taylor, Edith Kawai and Barbara Kopra invite any interested singers and choral directors to participate in this rare opportunity. Sessions to get familiar with the music will be offered Saturday afternoons Feb. 3 and 10 at St. James’ Church so participants can know the music in advance, allowing workshop time to focus on choral skills and musicality.

The registration fee for the workshop and music is $65.
